Hemp, Ella G. (1 MAR 1905 - 2 JUN 2002)


NEILLSVILLE - Ella G. Hemp, age 97, of Neillsville, Clark County died Sunday, June 2, 2002, at the Memorial Nursing Home in Neillsville.

Ella Gertrude Hoffmann was born on March 1, 1905, in the Town of Weston, Clark County, the daughter of Franz and Martha (Kalsow) Hoffmann. She attended the Globe Grade School and then in 1920 she began working as a housekeeper for several families in the area. On June 10, 1925, she was united in marriage to Herman A. Hemp. They farmed in the town of Weston until 1970 at which time they retired and moved to town. Ella was a member of the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church and its Ladies Aid in Globe. She was a Gray lady, Hospital Volunteer from 1970 until 1996 and her hobbies included crocheting, cards and gardening.

Survivors include one daughter, Marian (Fred) Vornholt of Neillsville one son, Robert (Jean) Hemp of San Antonio, Texas six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband her parents two sisters, Heldagarde and Erna and three brothers, William, Carl and Frank.

Funeral Services for Ella will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 6, 2002, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Globe. Pastor Kevin Hanke will officiate. Music will be provided by Karen Hoppa, organist Dawn Thoma and Pastor Kevin Hanke, vocalists. Interment will be in the Neillsville City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m., Thursday at the Church.

Casket Bearers are: Kurt Hediger, Jim Hemp, Gordon Thoma, John Vornholt, Mark Vornholt and Paul Vornholt.

The Gesche Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
