Young, William F. “Bill” (18 November 1925 - 25 December 2012) With Flag
William F. “Bill” Young, 87, of Hatfield and formerly of Augusta and Menomonee
Falls died Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2012, in the Pine View Care Center in Black River
Falls, WI.
Bill was born in Augusta, Nov. 18, 1925, to William A. and Emilie (Gerike)
Young. He was raised in Augusta and graduated from Augusta High School. He
received his BA and MA degrees from Stout State University.
He served in the Air Force for over two years. He married Judith C. “Judy”
Emanuel Aug. 17, 1952, at the Methodist Church in Augusta in a double wedding
with Judy’s brother, Dean Emanuel, and his bride Lorraine. Following their
marriage, the couple lived in Dollar Bay, MI, for three years before moving to
Menomonee Falls.
Bill taught industrial arts and driver’s education for 35 years at Menomonee
Falls High School. He also coached basketball for 19 years and was inducted into
the Wisconsin State Basketball Hall of Fame. He retired in 1985. Following
retirement, Bill and Judy wintered in Stuart, FL, and spent their summers in
Menomonee Falls and Hatfield.
Bill was a soft-spoken, gentle man, who enjoyed telling stories. He enjoyed all
sports, especially golf and going fishing, as well as woodworking.
Surviving are his wife, Judy; one son, William A. (Kathy) Young, Ashville, NC;
three daughters, Diane (John) Taylor, Green Bay, Patricia (Bob) Manier,
Cincinnati, OH, and Susan (Ron) Micheal, Hatfield; 13 grandchildren, Bill Young,
Tommy Young, Meghan (Adam) Van Iten, Brittany Taylor, Lindsay Taylor, Brendan
Taylor, Bob Manier, Emma Manier, Jessica (Jeff) Muth, Dan (Hannah) Nagl, Sarah
Nagl, Ryan Micheal and Dylan Micheal; one sister, Corrine Maier, Bloomer; two
brothers, Sam (Corrine) Young, Black River Falls and David (Joan) Young, Denver,
CO; and 14 close nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Ed Maier.
Memorial funeral services followed by military honors will be at 11 a.m.
Saturday Jan. 19, 2013, at the Black River Falls Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Pastor Ramie Bakken will conduct services. Relatives and friends may call at the
church Saturday, from 10 a.m. until time of services.
Torgerson’s Funeral Service (715-284-4321) of Black River Falls is assisting the
family with arrangements.
