SHOT TO DEATH

P. G. Arnold of Curtis ends the life of his son-in-law

Last Friday deputy sheriff Candy of Colby passed through here for Neillsville, having in custody P. G. (Philip George) Arnold charged with murdering his son-in-law, Matt Willheit. The prisoner looked to be 60 years of age and the motive which led to the killing was provoked by a quarrel as to who would build the kitchen fire. Arnold resided with his son-in-law on a farm near Curtiss, Wisconsin. Friday morning they had words as to who would get up to build the kitchen fire. It fell to the young man to perform the duty. Both men occupied rooms on the second floor. After building the fires Willheit was in the act of returning to his room and just as his head and shoulders appeared above the floor he was fired upon by Arnold. The gun was loaded with buckshot, eight of which passed through his body killing him instantly.
