Neuman, Duane W. (11 FEB 1932 - 02 JAN 2013)
Duane W. Neuman, age 80, of Colby, passed away Wednesday, January 2, 2013, in
the emergency room at Ministry Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield.
Duane was born February 11, 1932, in the town of Unity, the son of the late
Lawrence and Gertrude (Roohr) Neuman.
He attended Sunshine School and Unity High School. After high school, he farmed,
drove semi and was employed at Foremost Dairy, Owen.
He served his country during the Korean era, in the United States Marine Corp.
Duane married Dorothy Kanneberg-Olson on May 14, 1955, in Abbotsford. He owned
and operated a dairy farm from 1955 to 1969. He later started Duane’s Tech
Supply which he owned and operated from 1969 to the present.
Duane was a member of the American Legion Post 358 of Unity, serving as its post
commander and state commander of the Wisconsin American Legion. He was also a
member of VFW Post 2227 of Colby, a life time member of the NRA. Duane was a
member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Riplinger.
His hobbies included deer hunting, fishing and sharing his time with Badger
State Boys.
Survivors include his wife Dorothy, Colby; children Wayne (Karen) Colby; Larry
(Deborah), Tucson, AZ; Sandra (Randy) Kocian, Colby; Suzanne (Larry) Makeeff,
Carthage, MO; Lilli-Marlene (Thomas) Weis, Unity; 16 grandchildren; 29
great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandson; brother Glen (Vicki), Richland
Center; sisters, Lavonne (Gary) Levenhagen, Rock Island, TN; Joel (Daniel)
Elmhorst, Neillsville.
Duane was preceded in death by his parents; 1 brother; 1 grandson; 1
great-granddaughter.
Funeral services were held Monday, January 7, 2013, at St. John’s Lutheran
Church in Spencer.
Rev. Rebekah Tarras and Rev. Kenneth A. Dix presided. Burial was at St. John’s
Cemetery in Riplinger with full military rites. Duane’s grandsons will act as
both his active pallbearers and honorary pallbearers.
