Gangler, Nicholas (14 February 1881 - 1 January 1968)
Nicholas Ganger, 86, of Neillsville, who had been in poor health for several
months, died Monday in Neillsville. Funeral services will be held today
(Thursday) at 10:30 a.m. from St. Mary’s Catholic Church, of which he was a
member. The Rev. George M. Nelson will officiate. Burial will be made in the
parish cemetery.
Mr. Gangler was born February 14, 1881, in Clark County. His parents were the
late John and Catherine (Marx) Gangler. He attended schools in the Neillsville
area. He was married July 22, 1903, in Chicago, Ill., to Cora Williams.
In 1907 the family moved to Neillsville, where he worked for seven years for the
old Cash Hardware Company. He later opened his own variety store on
Neillsville’s main street, which he operated for 22 years. After selling the
store, he bought the Northside Store from the late Gust Deutsch, which he
operated for 30 years until his retirement in 1966.
Mr. Gangler is survived by a son, Clarence; and a daughter, Mrs. Garald
(Lillian) Hart, both of Neillsville. Other survivors are three brothers, Matt
and Peter of Chicago, Ill, and Joe of Valdosta, Ga.; three grandchildren and 10
great-grandchildren.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus; and was a 50-year member of the
Catholic Order of Foresters. A rosary service was held Wednesday evening at the
Georgas Funeral Home.

Funeral services were held Thursday morning from St. Mary’s Catholic Church in
Neillsville for Nicholas G angler, 86, who died January 1. The Rev. George M.
Nelson officiated. Burial was made in the parish cemetery.
Pallbearers were: Everett Skroch, Ralph Bauer, Elton Imig, Thomas Hart, Harry
Bedell and Kenneth Burr.
People from out of town attending were: Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Hart and family of
Racine; Mr. and Mrs. Jack Hughes of Milwaukee; Walter Gangler of Chicago, Ill.;
Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Hart and daughter of Faribault, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. William
Hughes of Milwaukee; Mrs. Elmer Handke and son of Lynn; and Mrs. John Wyer of
Ripon.
