Staples, Alta (25 July 1874 - 1 January 1968)

Mrs. Alta M. Staples, 93, of Merrillan died January 1 at the Misenko Nursing Home in Black River Falls, where she had resided the last two years. For many years she had made her home in Wisconsin Rapids.

Mrs. Staples was born July 25, 1874, in Sparta. She moved to Merrillan with her husband in 1900. They operated a farm two miles east of the village, (on Highway 95), and her husband was also an operator at the Hatfield power house. Her husband, Jay, died in 1925.

Survivors include: five sons, DeVan of Merrillan, Willis and Donald, both of Chicago, Ralph of Long Beach, Calif., and Robert of Wisconsin Rapids; two daughters, Mrs. Edward Maillioux and Mrs. Alfred Sherman of Wisconsin Rapids; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Services were held January 3, from the Merrillan Methodist Church, with the Rev. Calvin Carey officiating. Burial was made in Oakwood Cemetery.
