Gonnering, Marlene Ann (Marriage - 30 December 1967)
St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Colby was the scene Saturday of the wedding of
Miss Marlene Ann Gonnering of Rt. 2 Colby, and Sgt. Richard J. Gaffney of
Neillsville. Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Gonnering of Rt. 2
Colby, and Judge and Mrs. Richard F. Gaffney of Neillsville.
The bride selected an A-line gown of bonded silk, the bodice of which featured
an Empire waistline and long, fitted sleeves. The focal point of the gown was a
mink collar. The chapel-length train was caught up by fabric roses. Matching
rosettes adorned the squared-off train. A three-tiered veil of tulle was
attached to a mink circlet with a bow back. The bridal bouquet was made up of
red roses and stephanotis.
Her aides were Mrs. Gerald Gonnering, as matron-of-honor; Miss Marjean Fischer
of Milwaukee and Miss Nancy Hendricks of Withee, as bridesmaids. They were seen
in rouge velvet gowns in A-line design, styled with Empire bodices. The
three-quarter-length sleeves had cuffs of white fur. Their headpieces of fur
circlets, touched with seed pearls, held circular veils. Each carried a white
muff, topped with a long-stemmed red rose with greens. Patrick Gaffney was best
man. Groomsmen were Leon Gonnering of Coby and Bill Allen of Milwaukee. Ushers
were Dennis Gonnering and Tim Gaffney.
Music for the nuptial high mass at 1 p.m. was sung by the church choir. Wedding
day events included a reception and supper in the church hall, and a reception
at the home of the bride’s parents in the evening.
The bride has been employed in Wisconsin Rapids. Sgt. Gaffney is in the air
force, stationed in Florida.
The new Mr. and Mrs. Gaffney have left on a wedding trip through the southern
states enroute to their new home in Ft. Waldon Beach, Fla.
