Kurth, Alice Marie (24 September 1914 - 18 January 2013)

Alice Marie Ku9rth, 98, formerly of Neillsville, passed away Jan. 18, 2013, in Weston at the home of her niece.

Alice was born Sept. 24, 1914, in Greenwood to John and Julie Scharenbrock, the seventh child of eight children and also an identical twin. After moving to Chicago, she married Herbert Kurth June 18, 1938. They lived in Chicago, Sauk City and then made their home in Neillsville. Together they enjoyed their cottage, traveling and their many nieces and nephews. She worked 26 years at Auto Test in Neillsville until she retired. She enjoyed gardening, fishing, and baking, which she shared with her family. She loved playing cards, dancing and listening to polka music.

Alice was a longtime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and received an award for being one of the oldest members of the parish in 2011.

She was an aunt and a great, great aunt survived by many nieces and nephews and her special buddy, Corbin.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Julia; her brothers, John and Andrew; her sisters, Anne, Marie, Betty, Marcella her twin, and Julia; and her loving husband of 65 years, Herbert.

Her devotion and kindness for others are traits we will all remember. “As we say goodbye, as tears roll from our eyes, we know you have a place in heaven.”

The Mass of Christian Burial for Alice will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Neillsville, with visitation from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. The celebrant will be Fr. Varkey V. Joseph. Music will be provided by Ronald Resong, organist, and St. Mary’s Choir. Interment will be in the Neillsville City Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Jason Mauritz, Nick Rueth, LaVerne Gregorich, Jr., David Dann, Andrew Opelt and Eric Opelt.

In lieu of flowers, charitable donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, or Masses of Remembrance.

Special “Thank you” goes to the medical staff at Neillsville, Marshfield and Weston for all their friendship and support and care, and to Ministry Hospice Home Care.
