Atzen, Mr./Mrs. Melvin (Silver - 25 NOV 1963)
Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Atzen of Abbotsford held open house at the village hall
Saturday evening in celebration of their silver wedding anniversary.
For the occasion Mrs. Atzen was attired in a navy knit suit accented with a
corsage of pink roses and white carnations. Close relatives also had similar
corsages.
Highlighting the evening's festivities were a mock wedding, at which the bride
was represented by Mrs. Clarence Carpenter and the groom by Roland Roth. Al
Rehberg was the officiant and Mrs. Rehberg and Noel Schilling the "objectors."
Mr. and Mrs. Emil Daellenbach provided music for the dancing which followed.
Refreshments were served from a table centered with a decorated cake and
flowers.
Miss Irene Winchell and Melvin Atzen were married at Davenport, Ia., Nov. 25,
1938. The first years of their marriage they lived in Chicago and Evanston, and
came to Abbotsford in April 1952. Since that time they operated the Coffee Shop
and Hotel and bus depot.
The Atzens have four children, Mrs. Kenneth (Betty) Riegert of Dorchester, Bill,
who attends Wausau Technical Institute, Linda, a student in the eighth grade of
Dor-Abby School, and Nancy, in kindergarten. They also have one grandchild,
Scotty Riegert.
For the anniversary celebration the honored couple had all of their family with
them, as well as his brother, Ray Atzen of Davenport, Ia., who was his best man
at the wedding. The bridesmaid was not present.
Also present were Mrs. Atzen's two brothers, Albert Winchell of Merrill, and
Ernest Winchell of Dorchester, and sister, Mrs. George Johnson of Chicago.
Mr. Atzen's parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Ramm, and his three brothers, Ray,
Herbert and Harold, all of Davenport, Ia., and two uncles and aunts, Mr. and
Mrs. Fred Engel of Davenport, and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Engel of Dubuque, Ia., were
here for the occasion.
Other relatives and friends came from Davenport and Dubuque, Ia., Chicago and
Des Plaines, Ill., Milwaukee, West Allis, Shawano, Schofield, Merrill,
Marshfield, Wis. Rapids, Loyal, Dorchester, Colby, Abbotsford and vicinity.
