Wendel, Joseph (23 July 1883-15 Aug 1961)
Joseph A. Wendel, 78, of Loyal, whose brother Frank died Saturday, died early
Tuesday morning at his home of a heart attack. Funeral services will be held
Friday, August 18, at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. Rev. Norbert E.
King will officiate & burial will be made in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call at the Myre Funeral Home beginning at 2:30 p.m. Thursday. A
general rosary service will be held there at 8 p.m. Thursday evening.
Joseph Wendel was born on July 23, 1883 in Jefferson County and at the age of 9
came to a farm in the town of Loyal with his parents. He attended Mack School.
On February 9, 1915 he was married to the former Gertrude Gravitter in Spencer.
After their marriage they moved to a neighboring farm in the town of Loyal until
thirteen years ago when they moved to the city of Loyal. His wife survives him.
He was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church.
Other survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Alfred (Agnes) Pena of Long Beach,
California and two sisters, Mrs. John (Susie) Steger, Los Angeles, California;
and Mrs. Rudolph (Frances) Gravitter of Marshfield.
Two sisters and two brothers preceded him in death.
