Kalepp, Harold (Barn Fire - 5 DEC 1963)
The large barn on the Harold Kalepp farm at Dorchester Corners, north of Highway
13, was completely destroyed by fire of undetermined origin Thursday morning.
Norman Danen, a neighbor, discovered the fire, which started on the north side
of the building at 7:35 a.m., and gave immediate assistance. He was on his way
to work.
The Abbotsford and the Dorchester fire departments responded to the call and
confined their efforts to saving other buildings, as the fire was too far
advanced..
Included in the loss were the barn, about 25 tons of hay, all of the mink
supplies, a slef-propelled combine, the silo, and part of the machine shed..
A pony, house in the barn, was led to safety. No other livestock was kept in the
barn at this time.
The loss, estimated by Mr. Kalepp at $10,000, is partially covered by insurance.
