Alice M. Kurth, 98, formerly of Neillsville, passed away on Friday, Jan. 18,
2013, in Weston, at the home of her niece. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at
11 a.m., on Saturday, Jan. 26, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Neillsville. Rev.
Varkey V. Joseph will officiate. Music was provided by Ronald Resong, organist,
and St. Mary’s Choir. Interment will be in the Neillsville City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9:30 – 11 a.m. on Saturday at the church. Pallbearers
will be Jason Mauritz, Nick Rueth, Laverne Gregorich Jr., David Dann, Andrew
Opelt and Eric Opelt.
Alice Marie Scharenbrock was born on Sept. 24, 1914, in Greenwood, to john and
Julie Scharenbrock, the seventh child of eight children and also an identical
twin. After moving to Chicago, she married Herbert Kurth on June 18, 1938. They
lived in Chicago and Salk City, and then made their home at Neillsville.
Together they enjoyed their cottage, traveling, and their many nieces and
nephews. She worked for 26 years at Auto Test in Neillsville until she retired.
She enjoyed gardening, fishing and baking, which she shared with her family. She
loved playing cards, dancing and listening to polka music. Alice was a long time
member of St/ Mary’s Catholic Church and received an award for being one of the
oldest members of the parish in 2011. She was an aunt and a great-great aunt
survived by many nieces and nephews, and her special buddy, Corbin.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Julia Scharenbrock; her
brothers, John and Andrew; her sisters, Anne, Marie, Marcella (her twin) and
Julia; and her loving husband of 65 years, Herbert.
Her devotion and kindness for others are traits we will always remember. “As we
say goodbye, as tears roll from our eyes, we know you have a place in heaven.
In lieu of flowers, charitable donations may be made to the American Cancer
Society or Masses of Remembrance.
A special “thank you” to the medical staff at Neillsville, Marshfield and Weston
for all their friendship, support and care, and to Ministry Hospice Home Care.
