The Freshmen enrollment has been increased by the two new members, Wilmer Minett
and Cyril McClaflin, the later coming from the town of York and the former from
Richland Center.
Monday and Tuesday of last week the Freshmen class performed experiments in
General Science, showing the principle of the hot water system and proving the
expansion of air.
The Freshmen class has issued invitations for a Halloween party to be given to
the members of the Senior, Junior and Sophomore classes at the high school
Saturday night, Nov. 3.
The Fair and carnival held Oct. 20th at the opera house was a grad success in
every way. A large crowd gathered and it is safe to say everyone had a very
enjoyable evening. Eva Wegner was the lucky person of the evening, receiving the
pig that was given away. The net proceeds of the evening were $58.02. The
students of the school take this opportunity to express their appreciation of
the hearty support accorded them to make this event successful.
The Physics class has received their laboratory outfit and are now performing
experiments daily. The class period has been extended from thirty minutes to an
hour, so that more time can be taken for experiments.
Miss Barager is now teaching Physics; Prof. White, General History; and Miss
Gleason, Freshmen English. The aim is to organize the Science and English
classes under one teacher.
The Literary Society is going to put on the play, "The Miser of Reveleee." This
is dramatized from the story "Silas Marner."
A meeting of the Literary Society was held Friday evening for the purpose of
securing magazines and papers for the high school department. The president was
authorized to look up suitable magazines and order them.
The high school basketball team has been hard at work practicing the last few
weeks before opening their schedule. The schedule will be opened Nov. 9th, when
the locals clash with the fast Neillsville five at Neillsville. Games here also
have been scheduled with Marshfield and Alma Center.
The brick work has been completed on the new building and the prospects of
moving into it by January are looking considerably better now.
The Girls' basketball teams have practiced several times during the past weeks
and have a game scheduled with Neillsville girls for Nov. 9.
Lost: Fountain pen. Finder please return to Gertrude Davis.
Lost: Fountain pen. Finer please return to Rose Kemmeter.
Several of the high school students have purchased Liberty Bonds. Lydia Neinas,
Gertrude Davis, Clifton Paulson, Rose Kemmeter, Mermel Wonser, Elva Amidon,
Lucile Davis and Glen Hart are among those having purchased bonds.
The Sophomore English class has evidently taken a great liking for poetry.
Shakespeare is their favorite autor.
Patriotic bulletins have been secured for high school work from the National
Security League, written by Booth Larkington.
