Alvin Miller Barn (Fire - 14 March 1968)
The 110-foot dairy barn on the Alvin Miller farm, eight miles northeast of
Neillsville, was razed by fire last Thursday afternoon. The loss was but
partially covered by insurance.
Miller and his wife were working in the basement of the barn when they smelled
smoke. Miller ran outside and saw the roof was a blaze. He started driving
cattle out while Mrs. Miller ran to the house to telephone the alarm to the
Granton Fire Department. She returned, then, and helped him drive the remainder
of the cattle out.
A total of 90 head of stock were in the barn at the time, including 35 milk
cows, they said.
The Neillsville Fire Department responded to a call for assistance from the
Granton Fire Department.
