Schield, Joseph R. (27 March 1886 - 29 March 1968)

Funeral services were held Monday at 10:30 a.m. for Joseph R. Schield, 82, of Neillsville, who died Friday in St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield. The Rev. George M. Nelson officiated at services from St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Burial was made in the parish cemetery.

Mr. Schield was born march 27, 1886, in Wisconsin. He received his education in schools in the southern part of the state. His parents were the late John and Anna (Spartz) Schield. He worked on his father’s farm for a few years before coming to Clark County, where he located on a farm in the town of York. He later worked for the American Stores Company for 45 years until his retirement in 1956 on his 70th birthday. He was married on June 15, 1915, in Campbellsport to Alice Mathieu.

Mr. Schield is survived by his wife; a son, Dr. Carroll N. Schield of Neillsville; a sister, Mrs. Anna Wagner of West Bend; a brother, Ed Schield of West Bend; and by seven grandchildren.

A general rosary service was said Sunday evening. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and its Holy Name Society.

Pallbearers were: Everett Skroch, Elton Imig, William Schwellenbach, Harold Prock, John Bergemann and Ed Hainz.

People from away here for the funeral were: Mrs. Anna Wagner, Ed Schield, Mrs. John Hausmann, Mrs. Lawrence Bauer of West Bend; Mrs. Rosella Grivwak of Rubicon; Mr. and Mrs. George Mullins and Mrs. U. C. Jones of Milwaukee; Mrs. Helen Schroeder, Mrs. Charlotte Schueppert, Mrs. Charlotte Mathieu, Brian Schueppert and Miss Wendy Schield, all of Milwaukee; Mrs. Pat Werth of Denver, Colo.; and Dan Schield of St. Louis, Mo.
