Kocian, Mr./Mrs. J.B. (Gold - 17 JAN 1964)

Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Kocian of Colby marked their fiftieth wedding anniversary last Friday.

During the celebration, their children surprise them with a set of gold wedding bands, and each of their 14 grandchildren presented them with a yellow rose.

The Kocian's four children include Elmer Kocian, Colby; Mrs. Rudolph (Lillian) Dvorak, Wausau; Mrs. Harry (Margaret) Zrutskie, Colby; and Mrs. Dale (Adeline) Vaughn, Grand Junction, Colorado. Mrs. Vaughn was unable to attend, but phone to congratulate her parents. They also received a call from their grandson who is in the service, stationed in South Carolina.

For the celebration the table was centered with a beautifully decorated wedding cake. Gifts, besides the wedding bands and roses, included flowers, money and many cards.

Mrs. Kocian was born Josephine Bosak in Vienna, Austria, coming to Chicago at the age of 17. Later she moved to Phillips.

Mr. Kocian was born at Hay Springs, Neb. and moved to Phillips at the age of 19.

Mr. and Mrs. Kocian met at Phillips, and were married Jan. 17, 1914.

The Kocians farmed in the Phillips area until 1929. They then moved to the Abbotsford-Colby area and continued to farm until they retired in 1957.

In addition to their four children and fourteen grandchildren, Mr. and Mrs. Kocian have four great-grandchildren.
