Benedict J. Chris, 66, Abbotsford, died January 2, 1964,
at Sarasota, Fla. of a heart attack.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan 6,
at St. Mary of the Lake church, Gary, Ind.
Burial was made in Calumet Park cemetery.
Msgr. F. J. Mileage officiated at the mass of requiem.
Mr. Chris was born March 10, 1897 at Saxon, Wis.
Later his family moved to Abbotsford where he attended school.
He was a graduate of Valparaiso University and a veteran of World War I.
He resided in Gary, Indiana for thirty-eight years, and
was a retired supervisor in the accounting department at Gary Steel Works.
In January, 1963, Mr. and Mrs. Chris purchased the former
Nicholas Wibben home, east of Abbotsford.
A few months ago they left to spend the winter in Florida.
At the time of his death, Mr. Chris was a member of St.
Bernard’s Catholic church at Abbotsford.
In Gary he was a member of St. Mary’s of the Lake church, Holy Name
society, St Thomas Council, Knights of Columbus, Gary Catholic Laymen’s Club,
American Legion Post Number 17 and Gary Barracks of World War I Veterans.
Survivors include the widow, Mary; a daughter, Mrs.
Victor Fraser, Gary; a brother, Clarence, Abbotsford; and five sisters, Mrs.
Frank (Luisanne) Zondlo, Rib Lake; Mrs. Bertha Brick, Boyd; Mrs. Rose Knaack,
Owen; Mrs. Clara Kleinstick and Mrs. Lilliam Hammel and grand son Gary, of Gary,
all of whom were present at the funeral.
