Beyerl, Jacob “Jim” A. (20 NOV 1923 - 20 JAN 2013)

Jacob “Jim” A. Beyerl, age 89, of Colby, passed away, Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013, at his home in Colby.

Jim was born Nov. 20, 1923, to Frank and Marie (Kiefer) Beyerl in Colby. He grew up on a farm just outside of Colby. He graduated from Colby High School in 1941.

Jim and Rosemary Jane Bitter were joined in marriage on November 13, 1943, in Abbotsford. They began married life on Pine Lawn Farm, built by his father, Frank Beyerl. Eventually Jim started working at Lewis Container in Colby, which is now known as PCA, and moved into Colby in 1955 to a house at 107 E. Washington St. where he and his family lived until 2003.

He served on the city of Colby board for 22 years as a town alderman, many of those years included extra duties as chairman of oversight committees for the city. Jim worked with the Boy Scout troop in Colby when his son was in Scouts and for many years after. He served his church, St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Colby, by drawing up the first plat map of the church’s cemetery and correcting the many errors made over the 100+ years of existence. He also spent many years as a caregiver for his wife.

Jim was a member of the Colby Lions Club, and his hobbies included wood carving, hunting, snowmobiling, and helping anyone who was in need, including mowing and shoveling snow for many of his neighbors.

Jim is survived by three children, Paul (Gerry) Beyerl, Kirkland, WA, Diane (Ray) Tice of Lakeville, MN, and Daniel (Steve C.) Beyerl, De Soto. He is further survived by three grandchildren, Samuel Tice of Lakeville, MN, Josh (Heather) Tice of Eagan, MN, and Jason Radall of Warrenton, VA; and a son-in-law, David Randall of Warrenton, VA.

Jim is preceded in death by his wife, Rosemary; his son, Joseph Beyerl; and his daughter, Jeanne Randall.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Colby. A visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, at the Maurina Schilling Funeral Home in Colby with a Rosary at 4 p.m. A time of visitation will also be held from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the church on Thursday in Colby. Burial will follow the service at the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Colby.

The Maurina Schilling Funeral Home of Colby is assisting the Beyerl family with funeral arrangements.
