Dan Lind retires as Rib Lake postmaster
Since 1986 Dan Lind has served as postmaster in Rib Lake. Tuesday was his last
day.
Lind started working for the US Postal Service in Phillips in 1980. In 1983 he
became the postmaster in Brantwood where he served until coming back home to Rib
Lake.
In his nearly three decades as postmaster in Rib Lake Lind has been active in
the community. He and his wife Jean raised four children in the community. They
have been involved in school and community sports. Lind said he will miss the
daily conversations he has had with customers at the post office about sports
and other topics and the many friends he has made over the years.
For Lind, the biggest change over the years has been the increased automation in
the mail. He recalls the days when every morning and evening they would sort the
mail. Now almost all the sorting is automated at centers and it arrives at the
post office ready to deliver. With more changes on the horizon Lind felt it was
time to step down and enjoy his retirement. “We might even get the camper out of
the storage shed where it has been all season,” Lind said of his future plans.
Those plans include spending more time with his children and grandchildren. The
Linds have four children. Two who live in the Twin Cities area and two live in
the Green Bay and Fox Valley area. Rib Lake is conveniently between the two
making the visits easier.
