Bartz, Grace (11 MAR 1896 – 02 MAR 1914)

Once more the silent messenger of Death has through summoning one of our best beloved to that mysterious country where during countless ages, untold millions have gone before her and from whose bounds no traveler returns; brought deep and abiding grief to not only her immediate relatives but to the whole of the countryside where ever she had acquaintances.

The one to respond to the summons of this messenger was Grace Bartz.  She was born in Brillion, Wis., March 11, 1896 and had she lived until next week Wednesday she would have seen her 18^th birthday.  She came here with her parents Wm. and Anna Bartz when but a child of 8 years of age and has attended our schools and grown up here among us.  She is survived by her parents and her two brothers, Fred and Alfred; and one sister, little Ruth, and her doting grandfather Bartz who lives with her parents.  Two weeks ago last Thursday she was taken to Eau Claire where at the Sacred Heart Hospital she underwent an operation for relief from an abscess in the head.  The first one not being successful, a second one was performed two days later, apparently with better results.  Then a few days later spinal meningitis set in and on Sunday last she went into a rapid decline.  She spoke her last words Sunday though it was not until 2:20 a.m. Tuesday that she breathed her last.

Hers was a peaceful uneventful life, devoid of ostentatious display.  In the family circle a loving, kind and devoted daughter and sister whose every act evinced her tender solicitude for the welfare and happiness of its members.  As her body is laid to rest in the silent city of the dead then the pangs of loss and parting of her assembled relatives and friends will be softened by the thoughts that in pausing over the volumes of memories past the record of no unkind word or deed marred the life and no marble monument is needed to perpetuate the memory of her sweet young life and amiable character.

The funeral party will leave the house at 1:30 this (Friday) afternoon and the funeral services will be held in the Maple Works German Lutheran Church, Rev. Hasz officiating.  Interment will be made in the church cemetery.
