Mrs. Clara Christensen, 81, of Withee (Clark Co., Wis.), died at the Neillsville Hospital on Tuesday, June 9, 1964.

The former Clara Marie Hansen was born in Colby, Wis. And came to Thorp while still a young girl. She attended the public schools and graduated from Thorp High School. After attending Oshkosh Normal School she taught rural schools near Thorp and Withee until her marriage to John Christensen at Withee in 1910.

She lived at Withee and Owen until October 1963, when she moved to Neillsville.

Surviving are five brothers, Harold Hanson, Madison, Einar, La Mar, Mo., Albert, Racine, Magnus, Purdue, Ind. And Fred, Wyandotte, Mich.; three sisters, Mrs. Etna Giese, Minneapolis, Mrs. Margaret Solie, Carrington, N.D. and Mrs. Laura Clock, Rose Point Park, Mich., and two grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Friday at 2:00 p.m. at the Nazareth Lutheran Church at Withee, the rev. Beryl Knudsen officiating, and interment following in the parish cemetery beside her husband.

PLAN SERVICES FRIDAY FOR MRS. JOHN CHRISTENSEN

Funeral services for Mrs. John Christensen, a pioneer resident of the Village of Withee, will be held Friday afternoon from the Nazareth Lutheran Church in Withee.  The parish Pastor, Rev. Byrle Knudsen will officiate and burial will be made in the parish cemetery.

 

Mrs. Christensen passed away at 9:05 Tuesday morning at the Neillsville Memorial Nursing Home, Neillsville, where she had been a resident for the past several months.

Mrs. Christensen was 82 years of age being born September 15, 1882, in Colby.

 

Funeral arrangements are in charge at the Plombon Funeral Home at Stanley.  They’ve announced that friends may call at the funeral home in Stanley from noon Thursday until Friday noon.  At 12:30 p.m. Friday the casket will be moved to the Nazareth Lutheran Church where it will be open to friends until the time of the services.

FINAL HELD FOR MRS. JOHN CHRISTENSEN, 81

 

Rev. Beryl Knudsen, Pastor of Nazareth Lutheran Church, Withee, officiated at the final rites conducted for a pioneer Withee resident, Mrs. John Christensen.  Services were held at 2:00 o’clock Friday from the Withee parish with burial being made in the parish cemetery.

 

Pallbearers were Theodore Jensen, Sigrid Sorenson, E. H. Hansen, E. A. Hansen, Edgar Albert and Roy Segerstrom.

 

Mrs. Christensen passed away Tuesday, June 9, at the Memorial Nursing Home, Neillsville, where she had been a resident since October 27, 1963.

 

The former Clara Hansen was born September 15, 1882, at Colby and as an infant moved with her parents to Thorp.  She graduated from the Thorp High School and attended Oshkosh Teachers College for one year.  She then taught school in the Thorp and Withee area.  In 1910, she married John Christensen, who preceded her in death November 1938.  After their marriage, the couple lived at Withee.

 

Mrs. Christensen was a member of the Nazareth Lutheran Church and its Ladies Aid Society, the Royal neighbors of Withee, the Eastern Star of Owen, and the White Shrine of Eau Claire.

 

Survivors include five brothers, Harold Hansen, Madison; Einer Hansen, Lamar, Mo; Albert Hansen, Racine; Magnus Hansen, Peru, Ind., and Fred Hansen, Wyandotte, Mich.; three sisters, Mrs. Etna Giese, Minneapolis; Mrs. Laura Clock, Rose Point, Mich., and Mrs. Margaret Solie, Carrington, N. D.; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Lorraine Skalecki, Downers Grove, Ill., and two granddaughters.

 

She was preceded in death by a sons, a brother and a sister.
