Kind, Mr. and Mrs. Otto, Sr. (Golden - 15 May 1968)
Mr. and Mrs. Otto Kind, Sr., of Greenwood, who were married May 15, 1918, by the
Rev. H. P. Nordby in the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Curtiss, were honored at a
Golden wedding anniversary celebration June 1, arranged by their children. A
special devotion service was held at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Greenwood
by the Rev. Arvid Myhrwold; with musical selections by the Luther League. Open
house was held from 2 to 5 p.m. in the church basement with approximately 200
persons attending.
Mrs. Kind wore a corsage of gold roses and her husband a gold carnation
boutonniere. The honored couple received a television set from their children
and grandchildren and many other gifts and congratulatory messages.
A brother of Mr. Kind, Edwin Kind of Germantown, who was an attendant at the
1918 nuptial ceremony, was present as were guests from Texas, Washington,
Illinois, Minnesota and Wisconsin.
Mr. Kind was born in Sheboygan July 25, 1899, to Gottlieb and Otillia Hanneman
Kind and received his education in the Midway School, Town of Hoard. He was a
member of the Town of Warner School board and a deacon of Our Savior’s Lutheran
Church, of which the couple are members. His hobby is gardening and his health
is fair.
Mrs. Kind, the former Mabel Johnson, daughter of Ole and Karen (Peterson)
Johnson, was born in the Town of Mayville April 18, 1898, and was educated in
the Curtiss School. She enjoys crocheting and embroidering and is in good
health.
Mr. and Mrs. Kind farmed for eight years in Stetsonville, Taylor county, in
1926, they moved to a farm in the Town of Warner and lived there until they
retired and moved to the city of Greenwood, where he has been employed by the
city ever since.
The Kinds have six children: Mrs. Ray (Ruth) Rasmussen of Marshfield, Vernon of
Mansfield, Wash., Orlando, Mrs. Kenneth (Donna Mae) Hium, and Otto, Jr., all of
Greenwood, and Mrs. Elmer (Darlene) Speich of Rockford, Ill. Another son died in
1921 at the age of three months. They also have 29 grandchildren, three
step-grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
