Stanley, Mr. and Mrs. Roy (Golden - 1 June 1968)
Mr. and Mrs. Roy Stanley of rural Neillsville celebrated their golden wedding
anniversary June 2, at an open house from 2 to 5 p.m. at the home of their son
and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Allen Stanley of Granton.
Roy Stanley, son of the late Charles and Esther Stanley, and Eva E. Counsell,
daughter of Thomas and Mary Counsell, were married June 1, 1918, in the First
Presbyterian Church in Neillsville. The Rev. F. H. Ambrose performed the
ceremony. Their attendants were Paul Wolf, now deceased, and Mrs. John Counsell.
Mr. Stanley was born March 30, 1893, in the Town of Grant. He attended the Reed
School and prior to his marriage, hauled cream for the old Pleasant Ridge
Creamery and later hauled milk to the Condensery in Neillsville.
Mrs. Stanley was born August 10, 1898, in the Town of Ashippun, Dodge County.
She was four months old when her parents located on a farm in the Town of Grant.
She also attended the Reed School and was graduated from Neillsville High School
and its teachers’ training school in 1917. The following year she taught school
in Cannonville.
Following their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Stanley farmed and continued to operate a
dairy farm. Mr. Stanley is in partial retirement, keeping but a few dairy cows
and a large herd of beef cattle. He served for several years as clerk of the
Washington School district and Mrs. Stanley, a member of the United Methodist
Church, is also a member of its Women’s Society of Christian Service and is the
current recording secretary of the society. She is also a member and chairman of
the Esther Circle.
Mr. and Mrs. Stanley are the parents of a son, Allen, of Granton; three
daughters, Mrs. Dave (Jean) Krutsch of the Town of Washburn, Mrs. Gale (Mardene)
Bernett of Sparta and Mrs. Thomas (Ruth) Jacobs of Wausau. All were present with
their families for the anniversary celebration. Triplet sons were born December
3, 1925 and all died at birth. The couple also has six grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren.
Out of town guests attending the anniversary observance were Mr. and Mrs. Marvin
Counsell of Milwaukee, Mr. and Mrs. Gale Bernett of Sparta; Mr. and Mrs. Thomas
Jacobs and family of Wausau; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Counsell and daughter of
Augusta; Mrs. Marcia Quicker and sons and Wayne Strand of Slinger; Mr. and Mrs.
Joseph Rasch of Wilmette, Ill.; and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Buchanan of Eau Claire.
The diningroom at the Stanley home was decorated in gold, with a wedding cake
baked by Mrs. Allen Stanley serving as the centerpiece. Approximately 100 guests
signed the register.
