Kowalczyk, Stella (December 27, 1922 - August 30, 2008)

 

Stella Kowalczyk, 85, Gilman, died Saturday, Aug. 30 at her home, while under the care of Hope Hospice.

 

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Sept. 3 at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Gilman, with Father Frederick Brost officiating. Burial was at Meadowbrook Cemetery.

 

The former Stella Marucha was born December 27, 1922 in Radisson, the daughter of the late Stanley and Jennie (Wojciechowski) Marucha.

 

On June 13, 1942 she married Edward Kowalczyk in Chicago, Ill.

 

They settled in the Town of Ford and have lived there since. She was a member of the Western Taylor County American Legion Unit No. 359 for 53 years, in which she served as president for many years.

 

She is survived by her husband, Edward; five children, Joseph (Catherine) of Chicago, lll., Eugene (Jeanie) of White Bear Lake, Minn., Edith Raether of Jefferson, Daniel (Susan) of Gilman and Jenny (Bill) Mengel of Stevens Point; 13 grandchildren; two brothers, Felix Marucha of Baltimore, Md. and Carl (Janet) Marucha of Fox Lake; and two sisters, Isabel Stoey of Detroit, Mich., and Josephine (Frank) Czech of Chicago.

 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Stanley; and two brothers, Peter and John Marucha.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials to Hope Hospice are suggested.

 

Plombon Funeral Service of Stanley assisted the family with arrangements.
