Usack, Ruby (August 23, 1921 - November 7, 2008)

Ruby Usack, 87, Hannibal, died Friday, Nov. 7 at Memorial Nursing Home in Medford.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 11 at New Hope Presbyterian Church in Hannibal, with Rev. Cathy Hinman officiating. Burial was at Hannibal Cemetery.
Gilman Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.

The former Ruby Miller was born August 23, 1921 in Prairie Farm to the late Herman "Dutch" and Sarah (Meyers) Miller. She moved to the Hannibal area as a young girl and graduated from Hannibal High School in 1939.

She married Donald Hosley, who preceded her in death in December 1943.

She was then united in marriage on October 3, 1946 in Arkdale to Robert Usack, who preceded her in death on October 31, 2004. They lived and farmed in the Hannibal area for many years. She later worked as a nurse's aide at Memorial Hospital of Taylor County until her retirement in 1984.

She was a member of Hannibal Homemaker Club. She was a wonderful cook and baker, and enjoyed raising her vegetable and flower gardens.

Survivors include her two children, Larry (Love Lea) Usack of Bonduel and Sharon Pound of Medford; a brother, Kenneth (Elaine) of Barron; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Laurie Retterath; a son-in-law, Arthur Pound; a stepsister, Ethel Clark; and two stepbrothers, Clifford and Earl York.

In lieu of flowers, memorials will be used for individuals pursuing a career in the nursing profession.
