Balciar, Bernice G. (24 June 1919 – 29 Mar. 2009)
MEDFORD -- Bernice G. Balciar, 89, of Medford, died Sunday, March 29, 2009, at Memorial Health Center, Medford.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Medford. Burial will be in Medford Evergreen Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at Hemer Funeral Home, Medford, and from 10 a.m. until service time Thursday at the church.
Bernice was born June 24, 1919, at Dorchester to William and Irene (Paul) Schmidt. She was united in marriage Sept. 21, 1940, in Medford to George P. Balciar. He preceded her in death July 18, 1998.
The couple owned and operated Balciar's Tavern in the town of Hammel for 21 years. Bernice was a seamstress.
She is survived by a daughter, Laura (David R.) Kalmon of Medford; four sons, Gerald (Bonnie) Balciar of Parker, Colo., Robert Balciar of Medford, Kevin Balciar of Albuquerque, N.M., and Alan (Connie) Balciar of Quincy, Wash.; 14 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; two step-brothers, Ira (Rita) Schmidt of Paco Wash., and Lee Schmidt of Marshfield; two step-sisters, May Belle Thiemie of Spencer and Elanore (Alton) Musich of Longwood.
