Balciar, Richard G. (March 13, 1930 - April 4, 2010)
Richard G. Balciar, 80, Medford, died Sunday, April 4 at his home, under the care of his family and hospice.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 10 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Medford, with Pastor Pete Warmanen and Pastor Nancy Amacher officiating. Inurnment of cremated remains will take place at Medford Evergreen Cemetery, with graveside military rites performed by the Medford Military Honors Team.
Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 9:30 until the time of
the service.
Richard Balciar was born March 13, 1930 in the Town of Hammel to the late John
and Adella (Valent) Balciar. He attended elementary school in the Town of Hammel
and was a graduate of Medford High School.
On May 26, 1956 in Medford, he married Delores J. Knutson, who preceded him in
death on November 9, 2001. He served in the United States Army National Guard
for 21 years, retiring in 1971. He then worked at Medford Co-op and Weather
Shield in Medford, retiring in 1992. He also drove school bus for Krug's.
He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church where he served on the council,
and served on the Medford City Council. He participated in area horseshoe
leagues and enjoyed gardening, woods work and deer hunting.
Survivors include a daughter, Lisa (James) Gilles of Medford; two sons, Rodney
(Lynn) of Medford and Todd (Mary) of Mechanicsburg, Penn.; a sister, Irene
Brunner of Medford; two brothers, Walter (Margaret) and Kenneth (Joyce), both of
Medford; and five grandchildren, Nicole Gilles and Jon, Anne, Madison and
Kristina Balciar.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother,
Ernest "Emil."
Memorials may be made to Hope Hospice or St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
