Biographical Sketch of W. F. Atwell
W. F. ATWELL, physician and surgeon, Medford; was born in Now York City, Feb. 27, 1849; when ten years of age he went to Boonton, N. J., where he remained a short time, and then went to Orange Co.; in 1869 he came to Stevens Point, where he beiian the study of medicine with Dr. Phillips ; he also studied at Weyauwega, but his health failing, ho started on a survey with Capt. Pike. In 1872 he went to the Ohio Medical Collage, then to the Cincinnati College of Medicine and Surgery, and graduated in 1873 ; commenced practice in Weyauwega In October, 1877, came to Medford, and built a drug store together with his brother; he now has a practice of $4,000 a year. He married in 1873, but lost his wife, and married again in 1875 to Miss Relief Grover, a daughter of Peter Grover, one of the pioneers of Portage Co. They have two children—Willie G. and Fern C. Mr. Atwell belongs to the I. O. O. F. Encampment and Temple of Honor.
