Groff, Verna E. (Becker) (September 29, 1927 - September 4, 2010)


Verna E. Groff, 82, Medford, died Saturday, Sept. 4 at Memorial Nursing and Rehab Center in Medford, where she resided the past two years.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.


The former Verna Becker was born September 29, 1927 in Athens to the late Herman F. and Anna T. (Boehm) Becker. She attended Athens area schools.


She married George Groff and they later divorced. She married Ed Kasten and they later divorced. She worked at Admiral Company in Illinois for a period of time, then moved to the Medford area.


She was a member of the United Church of Christ in Athens. She enjoyed puzzles, reading books, playing bingo and cats.


Survivors include her children, John Groff of Mattoon, Sandy Groff of Illinois, and Morris and Herman Groff of Wausau; a son-in-law, Dean Busby of Colorado; brothers and sisters, Marcella Cook of South Carolina, Irma (Leland) Parmer of Mattoon, and Delmar (Marilyn) and Dale (Sally), both of Wausau; a sister-in-law, Evangeline Becker of Medford; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.


In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Jeanette Busby in 1973; two brothers, Alfred and Orville; and a sister, Dorthy Gruhlke.


In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to her family to be designated at a later date.
