Koffler recovering from injuries after explosion
Word has been received that Medford native Kevin Koffler was injured while serving in Afghanistan.
According to Koffler’s mother, Merri Faber, on August 13, the wrecker he was
operating hit a roadside bomb, shattering his left ankle and fracturing the
right. He had surgery in Afghanistan to stabilize the right ankle before being
sent to Landstuhl, Germany.
He was then transferred stateside for additional medical treatment. He arrived
in Portsmouth, Virginia on Saturday, August 21 and will be there for at least a
couple of weeks. He has surgery Sunday on the right and will be having more
surgery on the left later this week or early next week.
Koffler is expected to have a lengthy recovery and his family members are
grateful that it wasn’t worse.

Koffler is a 2003 graduate of Medford Area Senior High School and completed
basic training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego in fall 2003. He
is the son of Merri Faber of Medford and John Koffler of Rhinelander, and
grandson of Earl and Violet Thums of Westboro and Louis and Laura Koffler of
Ogema.
