Brooks, Walter (June 9, 1922 - January 23, 2009)
Walter G. Brooks, 86, Jump River, died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2009.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 31 at 1 p.m. at New Hope Presbyterian Church in Hannibal, with Pastor Bradley Carloss officiating.
Burial will be at Mount Nebo Cemetery in Jump River, with military graveside rites performed by the Jump River VFW Post 2977.
Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
Plombon Funeral Service of Gilman assisted the family with arrangements.

Brooks, Walter G. (June 9, 1922 - January 27, 2009)
Walter G. Brooks, 86, Jump River, died Tuesday, Jan. 27 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 31 at New Hope Presbyterian Church in Hannibal, with Pastor Bradley Carloss officiating. Burial was at Mount Nebo Cemetery in Jump River, with military graveside rites performed by the Jump River VFW Post No. 2977.
Walter was born June 9, 1922 in a log cabin south of Jump River to the late John and Ida (Louis) Brooks.
He grew up in Jump River and attended area rural schools. He served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. He fought at Saipan Island and Tinian and received three purple hearts. He was later a security guard for President Franklin D. Roosevelt until his death. After his discharge he returned to the Jump River area.
On August 16, 1947 in Jump River, he married Irene Pinkert, who survives. They farmed for over 61 years in Jump River.
He was a member of Jump River Lions, Jump River VFW Post No. 2977, Jump River Volunteer Fire Department, Jump River Town Board Chairman and also served on the Jump River School Board and Taylor County Board of Supervisors. He enjoyed hunting, dancing, traveling, snowmobiling and visiting with family and friends.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his children, Alison (Phil) Snyder of Denver, Colo., Cathy (Ed) Couillard of Pewaukee, Connie (Mark) Lekies of Medford, Terry Brooks of Jump River, Tracey (Ray) Tkachuk of Lublin and Trudy Brooks of Eau Claire; 14 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Fred; and two sisters, Lenora and Nellie Hink.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to New Hope Fellowship Hall Fund, Hannibal.
