Gowey, Helen M. (10 June 1924 - 19 Jan. 2009)

Helen M. Gowey, 84, of Medford died Monday, Jan. 19, 2009, at Saint Joseph's Hospital-Palliative Care Unit, Marshfield.

Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Medford. The Rev. Gerard Willger and Deacon Joseph Stefancin will officiate. Interment will be in Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery, Medford.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. Thursday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Medford, with a 10:15 a.m. Boxrucker-Berry American Legion Auxiliary Service.

Helen was born June 10, 1924, in the town of Holway, to the late Ignatz and Theresa (Krzykacz) Nowak. She married Theodore Gowey on July 1, 1942, in the town of Holway.

Helen worked as a cook for Holway District No. 1 and Taylor County Memorial Hospital and a caregiver and cook at Our House in Medford.

She is survived by daughters, Carol (Larry) Underwood of Medford and Linda (Gerald) Haavisto of Marshfield; one son, Larry (Joanne) Gowey of Marshfield; 10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Victoria Simpson of Abbotsford, Claire Sandel of Thorp and Sylvia Schaeffer of Palatine, Ill.; one sister-in-law, Josephine Nowak of Holcombe.
