Schlais, Margaret (29 Feb. 1920 - 1 Jan. 2009)
Margaret Schlais of Grover Beach, Calif., and formerly of Medford, died Jan. 1, 2009.
A vigil service was held Jan. 6, 2009, at Marshall-Spoo Sunset Funeral Chapel, 1239 Longbranch in Grover Beach.
A Mass of Christian burial was held Jan. 7. 2009, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 501 Fair Oaks in Arroyo Grande, burial followed at Arroyo Grande Cemetery.
She was born Feb. 29, 1920, in Medford to Louis and Elsie Sackmann.
In 1938, she married Charles Schlais in Medford and in August 1939, she gave birth to her only son, Donald.
They moved to Grover Beach in the early 1950s, where they made their home and were in business for many years as owners of Chuck's Liquors in Oceano Beach.
Margaret is survived by brothers George Sackmann, of Holcombe, Vincent Sackmann of Stetsonville and Edward Sackmann of Westboro; and sisters Florence Mayer of Chelsea and Ethel Kuzenski of Medford; three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson and a niece.
