Before the official organization of Trinity Lutheran Church (1883), an arrangement with the mission board of the Northwest District, Pastor H. Erck of St. John’s Lutheran Church in the Town of Wein (Marathon County), was permitted by his congregation to spend two weeks of each month among the Lutherans scattered in sixteen new settlements which opened with the completion of the Wisconsin Central Railroad in 1877.
He conducted the first Lutheran service in the Whittlesey community on October 17, 1878.
Exact dates are not known but Pastor Erck served Whittlesey Trinity in 1879.
