Orysczyn, Walter Swaitoslaw (February 7, 1919 - November 27, 2008)

Walter Swaitoslaw Oryszczyn, 89, Withee, died Saturday, Nov. 22 at Oakbrook Health and Rehab. A prayer service will be held Saturday, Dec. 6 at 3 p.m. at Holy Assumption Orthodox Church in Lublin, with Father Ted Wojcik officiating. Inurnment will follow in the church cemetery.

Walter Oryszczyn was born February 7, 1919 in Minneapolis, Minn. to the late John and Tatiana "Jessie" (Figura) Oryszczyn. His family moved to a farm northeast of Thorp where he attended area schools. He served in the United States Army from August 29, 1942 until his honorable discharge on November 2, 1945.

On May 3, 1947 at Holy Assumption Orthodox Church he married Olga Leshuk, who preceded him in death on June 29, 2003. After his discharge he did logging with Tony Sopetta and worked at Huberty's Gas Station in addition to farming his entire life. He lived in Withee until entering Oakbrook in September 2008.

He was a member of Holy Assumption Orthodox Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and playing the harmonica.

Survivors include a daughter, Carol (Charlie Hagedorn) Oryszcyn of Neillsville; a son, Bob (Margie) of Thorp; a sister, Caroline Gwiazdon of Thorp; two grandsons; and three great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, John Ory.

Thorp Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
