Lechleitner, Shirley Ellen (Day) (October 29, 1936 - April 26, 2011)
Shirley Ellen Lechleitner, 74, Edgar, died on Tuesday, April 26 at home, surrounded by her family. Funeral services were held on Saturday, April 30 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Poniatowski. Burial was in the parish cemetery.
The former Shirley Day was born on October 29, 1936 in the Town of Cleveland to
the late Dean and Doris (Williams) Day.
She attended Hannibal Public School and was valedictorian of the class of 1954.
After graduation she worked at the Badger Hotel and Weinbrenner Shoes in Merrill. She later graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in 1975 with a degree in elementary education.
On July 24, 1954 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Donald, she married Leonard
Lechleitner, who survives.
They lived in Merrill from 1954 to 1966 before moving to Edgar, where they farmed. She was a teacher at St. Mary's Catholic School in Colby then was a fourth grade teacher at Edgar Elementary School for 23 years. They also operated the Snack Shack Restaurant in Edgar from 1975 to 2002.
She enjoyed gardening, painting, sewing and polka dancing.
In addition to her husband, survivors include two daughters, Colleen (Roger)
Johnson of Eau Claire and Lynn (Scott) Shepro of Edgar; two sons, Greg (Brenda)
of Suring and Gary (Connie) of Edgar; a brother, Billy (Priscilla) of Gilman; a
sister, Deana (Elwood) Hoffman of Phoenix, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren; two
great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the family for a memorial
scholarship that will be established at a later date.
Peterson-Kraemer Funeral Home of Edgar assisted the family with arrangements.
