Rief-Kahon, Edna D. (Blaasch) (June 28, 1915 - July 9, 2011)
Edna D. Rief-Kahon, 96, Medford, died on Saturday, July 9 at Memorial Nursing and Rehab Center in Medford, where she resided the past 3-1/2 years.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, July 13 at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Medford, with Rev. James Krueger officiating. Burial was at Medford Evergreen Cemetery II.
Honorary pallbearers were her great-grandchildren, Maddie Moberg, Jakob Rief, and Zachary and Isabelle Ernest. Active pallbearers were John and Jonathan Rief and Shawn and Phil Ernest.
Hemer Funeral Service of Medford assisted the family with arrangements.
The former Edna Blaasch was born on June 28, 1915 in Rib Lake to the late Edward
and Anna (Meyer) Blaasch.
She attended Rib Lake Elementary, graduated from Rib Lake High School and attended Wausau Business College. After her education, she worked in the Taylor County agent's and nurse's offices.
On May 28, 1938 in Spirit, she married Melville L. Rief, who preceded her in
death on March 2, 1989.
On December 25, 1989 at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, she married Peter Kahon, who preceded her in death on September 10, 2003.
She worked as a bookkeeper for Rief Motors for a period of time. She resided in Medford for most of her life. In 2004 she moved to Country Gardens where she lived for three years, then in 2007 entered Memorial Nursing and Rehab Center.
She was a member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Taylor County
Homemakers, Ladies of Immanuel, charter member of Medford Hospital Auxiliary,
Medford Curling Club Women, Tee Hi Women's Golf, and also held offices in many
organizations. She enjoyed playing organ, cooking, sewing, playing bridge,
swimming, reading and traveling.
Survivors include a son, John (Yvonne) of Westboro; two grandchildren, Jonathan
(Darla) Rief and Shawn (Phil) Ernest, both of Medford; and four
great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by a brother,
Harold.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be given to the family for
future designation.
