Col. Peter J. Hirsch, 85, Pensacola, Fla., died on Friday, Aug. 5.
Cremainal inurnment will take place on Friday, Sept. 2 in the United States National Cemetery in Biloxi, Miss., with full military rites.

Colonel Peter J. Hirsch
Peter J. Hirsch, 85, a longtime resident of Ocean Springs died in Pensacola,
Florida on Friday, August 5, 2011.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna (Burns) Hirsch of Slocomb, Alabama
and his daughter Rebecca Ann (Hirsch) Frost of New Zealand.
Survivors include his current wife of 25 years, Joan West-Hirsch; sons Robert E. Hirsch and George V. Hirsch; daughters-in-law Melissa Hirsch and Debra Hirsch; daughter, Rachel Mahone; son-in-law, Doug Mahone; granddaughters Kim Batten, Amy Hirsch, Lani Tynes, Missy Turner, Tressie Hirsch, Christine Frost, Mary Hirsch and Lydia Mahone; grandsons Ian Mahone and Mark Yeatman.
Peter was born in Medford, Wisconsin on June 4, 1926 and enlisted in the U.S.
Army in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, November 21, 1944, upon graduation from Medford
High School.
He was commissioned Second Lieutenant on October 16, 1945 upon completion of OCS Class 498 at Ft. Benning, Georgia. He completed 32 years of military service and retired as Colonel in August of 1976. His areas of specialty included Infantry, Airborne, Military Assistance, and Military Logistics, and he saw service in Germany, France, Korea, Vietnam, Hawaii, and throughout the continental United States. His awards and decorations included WW II Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Medal, Legion of Merit Medal, Commendation Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Vietnam Gallantry Cross, RVN Armed Forces Honor Medal, American Defense Theater Ribbon, Republic of Vietnam Campaign medal, Army of Occupation medal, three Overseas Bars, and a Senior Parachutist Badge.
Upon retirement from the U.S. Army, Peter worked in forestry and real estate. He
moved to Ocean Springs in 1979 and served as a volunteer for the Gulf Islands
National Park Service. In addition, he also worked diligently in expanding the
Windsor Park Lighting District and developed a passion for fine woodworking and
genealogy. Peter will be long remembered and cherished for his absolute devotion
to family, his tireless work ethic, his celebratory approach to life, and his
infinite generosity to others.
Interment of ashes will be held later this month at the Biloxi U. S. Veteran
Cemetery during a military burial with honors.

Konieczny, Frank E. (September 26, 1923 - August 14, 2011)
Frank E. Konieczny, age 87, of the Town of Withee, died peacefully at his home on Sunday, Aug. 14, 2011, surrounded by his family.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2011, at the Nazareth Lutheran Church in Withee, with the Rev. Bonnie Cain officiating.
Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home of Owen assisted the family with arrangements.
Mr. Konieczny was born on September 26, 1923 on the family farm in Thorp, the
son of Frank and Sophia (Haider) Konieczny. He attended Pineland School.
Frank was united in marriage to Phyllis Ammentorp on June 16, 1945 at Nazareth
Lutheran Church.
In addition to owning a dairy farm in the Town of Withee, Mr. Konieczny also
worked at Thorp Silo Company and later was employed at Master Package where he
was a foreman. He retired in 1987.
Frank was a member of Nazareth Lutheran Church and served on the church council.
He was a past president of the Paper Workers Union and former member of the
Pineland School Board. Frank was also a former manager of the Pineland School
Baseball Team.
Frank cherished the time he could spend with family and friends, especially if
it included playing sheepshead, cribbage and various card games. Camping,
hunting and fishing were some of Frank's other favorite pastimes.
He is lovingly survived by his wife, Phyllis Konieczny, Thorp; children, Roger
(Jean Arnce), Portage, Sharon (Butch) Maier, Union Grove, David (Chris)
Konieczny, Medford, Ginny (Pat) Frinack, Thorp, Paul (Chris) Konieczny, Thorp,
and Carol (Dennis) Kuehnhold, Marshfield; 19 grandchildren; and 20
great-grandchildren; as well as a sister, Agnes Rohland, Withee; and brothers,
Stanley (Adala) Konieczny, Medford, and George (Joanne) Konieczny of Marshfield.
Frank is preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Rohland, and brothers, Tom and
Leon Konieczny.
A memorial in Mr. Konieczny's name will be established at a later date.

Kondrasuk, Philip James (May 10, 1928 - August 13, 2011)
Philip James Kondrasuk, 83, of Gilman, died on Saturday, Aug. 13, 2011 at the House of the Dove in Marshfield.
He was born on May 10, 1928 to the late Felix and Mae (Nichols) Kondrasuk. Philip was raised in the Town of Aurora and farmed in the area.
On Aug. 12, 1995 he married Fran Rogus. Philip was an active member of New Hope
Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by four step-children, Evelyn (Jamie) Furrer of Wausau, Bob
(Tami) Rogus and Rich Rogus, both of Thorp, and Ron (Linda) Rogus of
Neillsville; six step-grandchildren; and 2 step-great-grandchildren.
Philip is preceded in death by his wife Fran in 2008, and his parents.
A gathering of family and friends was held on Wednesday, Aug. 17 at the
Meadowbrook Cemetery in Gilman.
A special thanks to all family and friends that acted as Philips caregivers
over the last few years, especially those at the Gilman Care Center and at the
House of the Dove.

Krizan, Paul (March 5, 1931 - August 11, 2011)
Paul Krizan, age 80, of Gilman, passed away after a long struggle with leg infections when the Lord took him home on August 11, 2011 at the Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
Paul was born on March 5, 1931 at home, the son of the late John and Anna (Stanko) Krizan.
Paul proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, and after his return he was united in marriage on June 8, 1957 to Alice Guggisberg in Redwood County, Minn.
They moved to the Town of Pershing where they farmed and raised their family. Alice passed away at home in 1992 and later Paul married Bernice Poulda on June 29, 1998.
Paul was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Sheldon, serving as treasurer and church elder, also served on the town board and was a member of the Sheldon American Legion Post 316.
Paul is survived by his wife, Bernice Krizan of Gilman; four sons, David Krizan
of Sheldon, Dean (Mary) Krizan of Gilman, Wayne Krizan of Charleston, S.C. and
Jeff (Cari) Krizan of Bonsall, Calif.; two daughters, Peggy (Jerry) Imbach of
Medford, and Betty (Bruce) Webster of Sparta; step-children, Edgar (Tari) Poulda
of Cadott, Mike (Kim) Poulda of Medford, and Susan Poulda of Gilman; 10
grandchildren, Chad (Caylyn), Ryan (Melissa), David, Bryce, Alison, Tate, Cain,
Deji, Ayla, and Luke; step-grandchildren, Edgar III, Juliana, Elizabeth and
Emily; siblings, Andy (Helen) Krizan of Cornell, Dan (Bev) Krizan of Sheldon,
Tom Krizan of Madison, Mary Mau of Eau Claire, and Nell Randle of Florida; plus
many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Alice in 1992; sisters, Ruth Horak, Sue Pynnonen, and Ann Pynnonen; and brothers, Mike and John Krizan.
Services were held on Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at Trinity Lutheran Church in
Sheldon, with Pastor Aric Fenske officiating. Burial was at the Donald Cemetery
with the Sheldon American Legion Post 316 performing military graveside rites.

Kurth, Philomene "Philly" Mary (Stieber) (January 10, 1954 - August 13, 2011)
Philomene "Philly" Mary Kurth, 57, Town of Hill, died on Saturday, Aug. 13 at
her home, while under hospice care. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on
Saturday, Aug. 20 at 12 p.m. at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Rib Lake, with
Father Otto Bucher officiating.
Interment will be at the Garden of Memories in the Town of Hill. Pallbearers are Paul Stieber, Craig Stieber, Jason Giles, Steve Wibben, Rob Kurth and Curtis McElhney.
Visitation will be at the church on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of the
service.
Dallmann-Kniewel Funeral Homes of Medford and Rib Lake assisted the family with
arrangements.
The former Philomene Stieber was born on January 10, 1954 in Wausau to the late
Edwin and Mary (Lemmer) Stieber.
She attended St. Mary's Catholic Grade School and was a 1972 graduate of Marathon City High School. She worked at Wausau Daily Herald and various restaurants in the Wausau area.
On June 14, 1993 in Las Vegas, Nev., she married Jerry Kurth, who survives. They
lived in the Wausau area until moving to Hultman Lake in 2006. She worked as an
independent contractor for Countryside Meats for about four years and was known
as the "Meat Lady."
She was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church. She enjoyed fishing, deer
hunting, gardening and plants, horseback riding, English Sheepdogs, sitting
around campfires and winter camping.
In addition to her husband, survivors include a step-daughter, Kristina (Curtis)
McElhney of Wausau; three brothers, Clarence (Connie) of Marathon; John (Joyce)
of Rib Mountain and Thomas (Maryellen) of Mosinee; two sisters, Kookie Stieber
of Stevens Point and Christine (David) Giles of Weston; a step-granddaughter,
Brynn McElhney; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Earl and
Michael.

Niemuth, Glenn A. (March 26, 1932 - August 6, 2011)
Glenn A. Niemuth, 79, Altoona, died on Saturday, Aug. 6, of cancer. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Aug. 10 at United Methodist Church of Medford, with Rev. Michael Adedokun and Rev. Dr. Gary Cole officiating. Burial was at Medford Evergreen Cemetery II.
Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home of Eau Claire assisted the family with
arrangements.
Glenn Niemuth was born on March 26, 1932 in Deer Creek to the late Herman and
Helen (Tindula) Niemuth.
He attended Victory School in Deer Creek and worked in the Stetsonville farming community.
On August 28, 1953 in Medford, he married Ellen Marks, who survives. He owned
and operated Niemuth Implement Company, which is still in operation, until his
retirement in 1997.
He was a member of United Methodist Church, Boxrucker-Berry American Legion Post
No. 519, the volunteer fire department and the Commercial Club. He was village
board president and a former director of the Farmers State Bank, was
instrumental in the construction of the library, fire hall, legion hall and the
Centennial Community Center, and was one of the developers of the Crestview
addition to the village. He enjoyed the camaraderie of his friends and farm
customers, and spending time with his children, grandchildren and extended
family, as well as traveling and camping.
In addition to his wife, survivors include four children, Gregory (Claudia) and
Michele Stellick, both of Eau Claire, Neal (Leanne) of Bismarck, N.D., and
Jennie (Vic) Saeger of Minocqua; seven sisters, Rachel (Henry) Weiler of
Marshfield, Marcella Vlach of Temple Terrace, Fla., Mabel Habermeyer of
Fairchild, Elaine Fritsche of Dorchester, Beatrice (Art) Ludwig and Ruth
(Ernest) Arndt, both of Medford, and Vivian (Henry) Hentges of St. Charles,
Minn.; a brother, Marvin of Stetsonville; two brothers-in-law, George Marks and
Steve Marks; a sister-in-law, Jane Fastle; six grandchildren, Matthew, Emily and
Tom Stellick, Maria and Camille Niemuth, and Benjamin Roy Glenn Niemuth; nieces
and nephews; cousins; and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Vernon,
and Melvin in infancy, and a sister, Pearl Renelt.

ROBERT D. PIZZI, age 75, of Gilman, passed away at his home on Monday, August 15, 2011.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, August 20, 2011 at the Thorp Funeral Home, with Rev. Keith Apfelbeck officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home, on Saturday, from 9:00am until time of service.
Robert Donald Pizzi was born on December 10, 1935 in Chicago, IL, the son of
Joseph and Genevieve (O'Connell) Pizzi.
He was raised and received his education in the Chicago area. Robert was united in marriage to Josephine Kowal on September 22, 1956 in Chicago. They later divorced.
He worked at Danley Machine, in Chicago, as a foreman. In 1975, they moved to Lublin where they purchased and operated Pizzi's Bar for a few years. After selling the bar, Robert held various jobs including, a butcher for Lewan's IGA, pouring concrete for Silver Harycki and finally worked at Drangle's in Gilman.
He had many interests, but especially loved golfing, fishing, hunting and
refereed football, basketball, baseball and softball in Gilman for many years.
He was a member of the Gilman Lion's Club and the C.B.A. in Gilman.
Robert is survived by one son: Tim Pizzi of Menomonie; 7 grandchildren;
4 great-grandchildren; and a son-in-law: David Betz of Curtiss.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Debi Betz on September
24, 2008.

Riemer, Marvin J. (March 24, 1941 - August 7, 2011)
Marvin J. Riemer, 70, Stetsonville, died on Sunday, Aug. 7 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital, where he had been a patient the past five days.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, Aug. 12 at 3 p.m. at Sacred Heart
Catholic Church in Stetsonville, with Father Showreddy Gali and Father Sleeva
Raju Madanu officiating. Interment of his cremated remains will take place at
Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Stetsonville. Urn bearers are his sons, Al,
Paul and Mark Riemer.
Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from noon until the time of the
service.
Hemer Funeral Service of Medford assisted the family with arrangements.
Marvin Riemer was born on March 24, 1941 in the Town of Little Black to Norman
and Ruth (Ludwig) Riemer.
He attended Liberty Elementary School in the Town of Little Black and was a 1959 graduate of Dorchester High School.
On June 15, 1963 at St. Louis Catholic Church in Dorchester, he married Pauline
Ramminger, who survives. He owned and operated Riemer Builders in Stetsonville
for 41 years until retirement in 2007.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, was a firefighter with the
Stetsonville Volunteer Fire Department for 40 years, serving 17 years as
assistant fire chief, and served on the Stetsonville Village Board for 36 years.
He enjoyed playing softball, horseshoes, baseball, their Chequamegon hunting
shack, and most of all spending time with his family, and was an avid bowler and
was known as Marvelous Marv.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his mother, Ruth Riemer of Medford;
four children, Al (Julie), Mark "Ed" and Ann (Rodney "Goody") Goodrich, all of
Stetsonville, and Paul (Julie) of Rochester, Minn.; nine siblings, Joyce
(Eugene) Erickson of Jackson, Karen (Otto "Jr.") Olson and Rhonda (Mike) Handel,
both of Medford, Richard of Fond du Lac, Marjean (Steve) Zemaitis of Mesa,
Ariz., Kris (David) Tickler of Park Falls, John (Julie) of Osceola, Phyllis
(Bill) Schafer of Brodhead and Larry (Pam) of River Falls; and eight
grandchildren, Brooke, Cassie, Maggie, Lucas, Sophia and Brady "Little Man"
Riemer, and Katelyn and Colten Ruppel.
He was preceded in death by his father, Norman.

Schumacher, Anna "Ann" E. (Zirngibl) (March 15, 1923 - August 7, 2011)
Anna "Ann" E. Schumacher, 88, Medford, died on Sunday, Aug. 7 at Deerview Meadows, where she had resided the past three years, surrounded by her loving family and under the care of Hope Hospice.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Aug. 13 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Medford, with Father Gerard Willger officiating. Pallbearers are Bill Zirngibl, Dan Weber, Ken Hinke, and Ned, Neil, Ryan and Tony Schumacher.
Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of
the service.
Cremainal inurnment will take place on Saturday, Aug. 27 at 10 a.m. at Holy
Rosary Catholic Cemetery in Medford.

The former Anna Zirngibl was born on March 15, 1923 in the Town of Little Black
to the late Michael and Mary F. (Koestner) Zirngibl.
She attended Little White School and Medford High School. Anna graduated as valedictorian of her high school class, and trained as an elementary school teacher at Taylor County Normal School. When teacher licensing changed, she obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education in 1959 from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Later she received her Pre-k-12 grade cognitive disability certification from UW-Eau Claire, and held a life license in this area for the remainder of her career.
On July 24, 1951 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, she married Melvin N.
Schumacher, who preceded her in death. She was an elementary school teacher at
Lublin, Marshfield, Abbotsford and Medford area schools for 47 years. She was
twice recognized for her work as a retired teacher in the Stetsonville Title I
reading program as Medford Area Schools Volunteer of the Year.
She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and WEAC, and past member of St.
Louis Catholic Church in Dorchester. She was very active and involved in her
churches, holding many leadership positions, and was influential in organizing
the St. Louis School in Dorchester. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, traveling,
cooking, reading and going to dances.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary (William) Wacek of Westboro; a grandson, Mark
(Beth) Wacek of Menomonie; a great-grandson, Zachary Wacek of Menomonie; three
sisters, Evelyn Kapfhamer of Medford, Rita (Bill) Kuchenbecker of Neillsville
and Marilyn (Ernie) Haug of Brookfield; four sisters-in-law, Carol Zirngibl of
Milwaukee, Agnes Zirngibl of Medford, Rosaclara Gable of Gainesville, Ga., and
Marlene (Bryce) Hinke of Stetsonville; a brother-in-law, Robert (Dorothy)
Schumacher of Dorchester; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and
friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by five
brothers, Elmer, Ray, Leo, Henry and Don, and a sister, Irene Metz.

Elizabeth B. Zak, 82, Little Black, died on Sunday, Aug. 14 at Memorial Nursing and Rehab in Medford.

The former Elizabeth Becker was born on September 1, 1928 in Merrill to the late
James and Margaret (Hipp) Becker Sr. She was a graduate of Prentice Grade
School.
On May 26, 1951 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, she married Tony Zak, who
survives. She was a homemaker.
She was an active member of Sacred Catholic Church and the PCCW. She enjoyed
reading, gambling, lottery tickets, gardening, and most of all spending time
with her family.
In addition to her husband, survivors include three sons, James, Thomas
(Melissa) and Joseph, all of Stetsonville; two brothers, George of Medford and
James (Brenda) of Tomahawk; and 10 grandchildren, Tonya, Heather, Antonia, James
Jr., Chris, Jennifer, Chelsea, Megan, Jordan and Holly.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Carl; a
sister, Emma Pierce; and a sister-in-law, Nancy Becker.
