Sackmann, Edna M. (Thomsen) (September 25, 1918 - August 28, 2011)
Former Town of Deer Creek resident Edna M. Sackmann, 92, Wausau, died on Sunday, Aug. 28 at The Wellington Place in Wausau, where she had resided the past two years, while under hospice care.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Aug. 31 at Hemer Funeral Home in Medford, with Rev. Kris Bjerke-Ulliman officiating. Burial was at Stetsonville Public Cemetery. Pallbearers were her grandchildren, Joslyn Sackmann, Erin, Gregory and Sara Beranek, and Kristine, Nicholas and Michael Prechel.
The former Edna Thomsen was born on September 25, 1918 in the Town of Deer Creek
to the late Herman L. and Frieda A. (Jochimsen) Thomsen. She attended Spruce
Grove Elementary School in the Town of Deer Creek.
On May 25, 1946 in Stetsonville, she married Joseph M. Sackmann, who preceded
her in death on March 25, 1998. She worked at Hurd Millwork making window sashes
for about five years. They then owned and operated a dairy farm in the Town of
Deer Creek for 48 years until her retirement.
She enjoyed gardening, canning, picking berries, embroidery, reading and
spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include two daughters, Sandra (George) Beranek of Wausau and Suann
(Steven) Prechel of Getzville, NY; two sons, David (Cynthia) of Milwaukee and
Steve (Linda) of Maple Grove, MN; four brothers, Clarence, Carl, Harold and
Elmer; two sisters-in-law, Nora Hornak of Big Bend and Sister Mary Angela
Sackmann of Owensboro, KY; a brother-in-law, Herbert (Jane) Sackmann of Richland
Center; seven grandchildren, Joslyn Sackmann, Erin, Gregory and Sara Beranek,
and Kristine, Nicholas and Michael Prechel; nieces and nephews; and other
relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to her family for later designation.
