Luick, Leon W. (May 14, 1922 - January 7, 2012)


Leon W. Luick, age 89, of King, formerly of Madison, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 7, 2012, with his family at his side, at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King.

He was born on May 14, 1922 in Stetsonville, the son of Otto and Emma (Kuczenski) Luick. On June 15, 1945, Leon married Josephine Stoppa at Zion Lutheran Church in Stetsonville.

He was a member of the first graduating class of the Wisconsin State Patrol Academy in 1954. Leon went on to become Chief Motor Vehicle Inspector of the Wisconsin Department of Transportation until his retirement in 1976. He was a proud member of the Madison Municipal Band and the New Horizon's Band of Madison.

Leon and Josephine were founding members of the Polish Heritage Club of Wisconsin/Madison, where Leon had served as past president. He will be deeply missed by all of his family and friends.


Leon is survived by his wife, Josephine Luick of King; three children, Jo-Ellen (Darryl) Kohn of Largo, Fla., Leon "Butch" (Dorie) Luick II of Madison, and Ray (Jeanne) Luick of Lodi; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Donald (Marlene) Luick of Rhinelander; a sister, Doris Jende of Milwaukee; a sister-in-law, Betty Luick of Oregon; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Emma Luick, a brother, Myron "Mike" Luick and a brother-in-law, Gerald Jende.


A funeral service will be held on Thursday, Jan. 12 at 11 a.m. at the Main Chapel at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King. Chaplain Wayne Schwanke and Reverend David Susan will officiate. Burial will be at the Central Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in King following the services on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in the name of Leon W. Luick. The Holly Funeral Home of Waupaca assisted the family with arrangements.
