Meyer, Janice "Jan" K. (Battles) LaFontaine (June 24, 1944 - February 20, 2012)

Janice "Jan" K. Meyer, 67, Medford, died on Monday, Feb. 20 at Ministry St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, Feb. 24 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Medford, with Pastor Pete Warmanen officiating. Burial will be at Perkinstown Community Cemetery. Active pallbearers are Mitch Miller, Tom LaFontaine, Ronald Raasch, Jim Meyer, Bob Mabie and J.J. Klinger. Honorary pallbearers are her granddaughters.


Visitation will be held at the church on Thursday, Feb. 23 from 4 to 7 p.m., and on Friday from 9 a.m. until the time of services.


Hemer Funeral Home of Medford assisted the family with arrangements.

DATE & PLACE OF BIRTH: June 24, 1944 in Herrington, Kansas

EDUCATION: Attended elementary school in Herrington, Kansas, High School in Fountain, Colorado and Medford, Wisconsin

MARRIAGE INFORMATION: 1st: November 1961 at Fort Carson, Colorado, Colorado Springs, Colorado to Tom LaFontaine and they later divorced. 2nd: April 26, 1968 at Anchorage, Alaska to Raymond “Ray” W. Meyer and he survives

PRINCIPAL EVENTS IN LIFE: After their marriage Janice and Raymond owned and operated Jan’s Bar in Medford. She then worked at Tombstone, Marathon Cheese, Marketplace Foods and Fuzzy’s General Store. She then worked as a cook at the Village Mall, Medford Café and Shirley’s. Janice and her husband, along with their son Jim, owned and operated Hook, Line and Sinker Bait Shop at Miller Dam. She had a small café in the bait shop named Little Minnow Grill where she was a cook until her retirement. Janice enjoyed fishing, knitting, reading, cooking, shopping, crafts and painting.

MEMBER OF: St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Medford where she was also a member of the Ladies evening group. Also a member of the Happy Hookers Knitting Group

SURVIVING SPOUSE: Raymond “Ray” W. Meyer of Medford

SURVIVING DAUGHTERS: Gail (Mitch) Miller, Medford, Pam (Kurt) Jochimsen, Stratford, Laurie (Packer) Bryan, Medford, Kristen (Ronald) Raasch, Medford, Jim (Stacy) Meyer, Phillips, Bethany LaFontaine, La Crosse.

SURVIVING SONS: Rod Meyer of Medford, Thomas (Christina) LaFontaine, Huntsville, Alabama
