Becker, Ophelia F. (23 June 1921 - 4 Feb. 1997)

 

Ophelia F. Becker, 75, of 910 W. Sixth St. died at 5:32 a.m. Feb. 4, 1997, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, where she had been a patient since Nov. 24, 1996.

 

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Sun. at the Skinner Funeral Home in Pharr, Texas. Burial will be in Rose Lawn Cemetery in Mt. Allen, Texas. Relatives will serve as pallbearers.

 

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Sat.and again until service time on Sun. both at the funeral home in Texas.

 

Hansen Funeral Home Marshfield, was in charge of the local arrangements.

 

She was born June 23, 1921, in Mission, Texas, to Pedro and Juanita (Trevino) Ruiz.  She was married to Greyton Becker in June 1946, in Texas.

 

Mrs. Becker received her elementary and secomdary education in Pharr, Texas.  She received her bachelor's degree from the Pan American University in Edinburg, Texas, and later received her master's degree from the University of Wisconsin-Stout, Menominie.

 

After her education, she raised her family. The Beckers moved to Marshfield in 1964 and in 1966 she started teaching at Marshfield Junior High School, where she worked until her retirement in 1990.

 

She was a member of Mother Church of Christ Scientist at Boston and a member of the national and state Teachers Associations.

 

Survivors include her husband, Greyton; her children Frances (Jerry) Daniels of Charleston, Ill.; Ophelia (Jerry) Tubbs of Kansas City, Mo.; Pamela Louise Becker of Pharr, Texas; Greyton (Pamela) Becker Jr. of St. Paul, Minn.; Frederick J. Bedcker of Marshfield and Peter Christopher Becker of Pharr, Texas; seven grandchildren; a brother, Flavio (Ellen) Ruiz of St. Louis, Mo.; a sister, Velia Guetzow of Houston, Texas.

 

She was predeceased by two brothers, Abel and George Ruiz, a sister, Minnie Vance; and her parents.

 

Memorials may be designated to the family in her name and they will establish a memorial upon their return from Texas.
