Schmelling, Iva M. (12 Nov. 1927 - 29 Oct. 2008)

Iva M. Schmelling, 80, of Marshfield, died Wed., Oct. 29, 2008, at the House of the Dove under the care of Ministry Home Hospice. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Mon., Nov. 3, 2008, at Calvary Bible Church in Marshfield, with the Rev. Craig Conner officiating.

Visitation will be held at the church Sun. Nov. 2, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and an hour before the service Mon.. Internment will be in Hillside Cemetery.

Hansen-Schilling Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Music will be provided by Dave Zimmerman, organist, Tim Hovendick, vocalist, and Pat Weiss, pianist. Serving as pallbearers will be Roger Hansen, George Koopman, Mike Lutz, Cliff Hansen, Jeremy Ely, Kirk Hansen, Ryan Hansen and Lyle Kayhart. The former Iva Martha Smith was born Nov. 12, 1927, to Christian and Venus (Kober) Smith at their home in Pittsville. She received her early education in various one room schools in the Pittsville area before moving with her parents to New York. She graduated from high school in 1945 at Groton, New York. Following graduation, she worked for Smith-Corona in Cortland, New York.

On August 6, 1948, she was united in marriage to Gilbert Schelling in Cortland, New York. The couple returned to Wisconsin and farmed at Klondike Corners and later in the Chili area. They retired and sold their farm, moving to Marshfield where they have resided the past 23 years. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this year.

Besides helping on the family farm, Iva worked part-time at the former Midwest Livestock Producers in Granton and also at Figi's of Marshfield.

Mrs. Schelling was a member of Calvary Bible Church and had served as its financial secretary. She also was a member of its Ladies Fellowship and served as various officers, including president. She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Iva is lovingly survived by her husband, Gilbert (Jack); her children, Lynda (Roger) Hansen of Marshfield, Ronne Schelling of Marshfield, and Connie (George) Koopman of Chili; a sister, Ruth (Abe) Congdon of Groton, N.Y.; and a brother, Delmont (Jeanette) Smith of Palm Coast, Fla. She is further survived by six grandchildren, Ryan (Zurica) Hansen of Providence, R.I., Kirk (Brenda) Hansen of Marshfield, Nicole (Mike) Lutz of Vesper, Lisa (Cliff) Hansen of Marshfield, Kristi (Jeremy) Ely of Auburndale and Robin Koopman of Chili; and four great-grandchildren, Abigail Koopman, Aaron, Clifford, and Sophia Hansen.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Scott Schelling.

Thank you to Dr. Khan, Dr. Laura Lizakowski, the staff at the Palliative Care Unit, House of the Dove, and the many friends and family for their loving support and prayers.

Memorials may be given to Calvary Bible Church or House of the Dove.
