Stroetz, William E. (14 July 1925 - 27 Nov. 1997)
William E. “Bill” Stroetz, 72, of M511 Cherry Road, died at 3:30 a.m. Nov. 27, 1997, at the Marshfield Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. He had been a resident at the Center since Oct. 17.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Mon., Dec. 1, 1997, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, WELS, in the town of McMillan. The Rev. Anthony L. Straeske, pastor, will officiate. Patti Coffren will be organist for Doug Redetzke, soloist, and for congregational singing.
Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Harold Weichelt, Richard Scheuer, Lawrence Adamski, Henry Roesler, Henry Weiler and Kenneth Seehafer. Active pallbearers will be Randy Stroetz, Brian D. Stroetz, James Stroetz, Eugene Stroetz, Daniel L. Stroetz, Michael Aldrich, Jerry Zepplin and Kenneth R. Zepplin.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Sun. at Rembs/Kundinger Chapel and again on Mon. until 9 a.m. then at the church from 10 a.m. until service time.
Mr. Stroetz was born July 14, 1925, in Marshfield, the son of Harry and Wilma (Sersch) Stroetz. He attended West Kerwin Elementary School in the town of McMillan, and Stratford High School.
He married Berdeen M. Luther June 15, 1946, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, town of McMillan. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1996.
After marriage, Bill continued farming on the family farm on Staadt Avenue, from 1946 to 1976, then retired. Following his retirement the Stroetzes moved to their present home on Cherry Road where the couple began raising registered Belgian horses, giving rides and participating in parades as a hobby.
Mr. Stroetz was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, of which he was a former elder. He served on the West Kerwin School Board, the Board of Directors of Edelweiss Cheese Factory, and served on the Marathon County Soil Conservation Committee for 25 years. He was also a member of the Marshfield Fair Association, a committee member of the Abbyland Draft Horse Show and the Central Wisconsin State Fair, was a volunteer fireman for the town of McMillan, served as a former constable, town board supervisor and later as chairman for the town of McMillan. His service within the town of McMillan covered a span of 34 years. This past year Bill received the Award of Distinction by Main Street of Marshfield for his years of dedicated service in providing wagon rides during the holiday season.
Bill was an avid hunter and horseman. His enjoyment was raising and training Belgian horses. He loved his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and will be sadly missed by them and all his many friends.
He is survived by his wife, Berdeen M. Stroetz of Marshfield; a daughter, Linda K. (Roger) Kasner of Stratford; a son, Dennis W. (Krisan) Stroetz of Marshfield; five grandchildren, Chad (Katie) Widmann, Joel Widmann, Dane Stroetz, Erika Stroetz and Anna Stroetz; two great-grandsons, Christopher and Logan; two sisters, Dorothy (Jack) Zepplin and Caroline (James) Aldrich, both of Stratford; and two brothers, Donald (Jane) Stroetz and LeRoy Stroetz, both of Stratford.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by one brother, Robert Stroetz.
Memorials may be designated in Bill’s name to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, town of McMillan.
