Irving L. Korth, 88, of Park Ridge, died Sat. April 18, 2009, at Saint Joseph's Pallative Care Unit in Marshfield.
Funeral arrangements are pending at the Shuda Funeral Chapel in Stevens Point. A complete obituary will be in Mon.'s Stevens Point Journal.
----Source: Stevens Point Journal (Stevens Point, Portage County, Wis.) Mon., 20 Apr. 2009 Irving "Irv" Korth, 88, of Stevens Point, passed away Sat.morning, April 18, 2009, at Saint Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield. Irv was in the palliative care unit and died peacefully in his sleep.
Funeral services for Irv will be held Wed., April 22, 2009, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church. There will be a visitation from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. immediately preceding the service. The Rev. Tom Petersen will officiate. Visitation will also be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tues., April 21, 2009, at the Shuda Funeral Chapel on Highway 66. A memorial, in lieu of flowers, will be established in Irv's name for the Green Circle Trail in Stevens Point.
Irv was born March 14, 1921, in Antigo, the son of Louis and Mary (Lenzner) Korth. Irv was a 1939 graduate of Antigo High School. He began military service in 1942 and served as a radio operator/navigator in the U.S. Air Force during World War II in the Pacific theater. After being honorably discharged in 1946, he attended Central State Teachers College, graduating in 1950. Irv completed his master's degree in soils and water at the University at Madison. In 1962, Irv and his family moved to Stevens Point to begin work at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. He retired in 1986.
Irv married Ruth Teetzen on March 12, 1955. The couple are proud parents of three children and five grandchildren. Irv enjoyed an active lifestyle that included running, biking and cross-country skiing. In addition he spent time reading, playing piano and restoring antique automobiles. He was especially proud of his grandchildren and cherished the time he could spend with them.
Irv is survived by his wife, Ruth; their three children, Marc (Mary) of Seattle, Lynn Walker (Chris) of Stevens Point, Lou (Carol) of Stevens Point; and five grandchildren, Christina and Alyssa of Seattle, and Sam, Alex and Ben of Stevens Point. His brothers Ken, Arizona, Louis, Colorado, and Marian, Wisconsin, survive him, as well. He was preceded in death by his parents.
