Ridgway, John W. (20 Nov. 1925 - 23 Feb. 2009)

John W. Ridgway Sr., 83, Marshfield, and formerly of Stevens Point, died on Mon., Feb. 23, 2009, at Bethel Center in Arpin.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thur., Feb. 26, 2009, at Rembs' Funeral Home (300 S. Oak Ave. - Marshfield, WI), Marshfield. The Rev. Ruth Egerer, pastor of Wesley United Methodist Church, will officiate. Military rites will be conducted at the funeral home by the American Legion Post 54 following the service.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the funeral home Thur. from 10 a.m. until service time.

Mr. Ridgway was born on Nov. 20, 1925, in Elkhorn, the son of Dr. Eldo T. and Leona (Hillis) Ridgway, and was a graduate of Elkhorn High School. After his education, he entered the United States Navy, serving during World War II. On Sept. 6, 1947, he and Jocelyn V. Bartlett were united in marriage in Hudson. He had been employed for the University of Wisconsin at various locations, lastly in Stevens Point, until his retirement. The Ridgways moved to Marshfield in 1999.

John was a lifelong member and past president of the American Legion Post 0543, Stevens Point; the Masonic Temple; and Wesley United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Jocelyn of Marshfield; and their children, Elizabeth J. Hudson of Cedarburg and John W. (Patricia) Ridgway Jr. of Granton. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Peter Hudson, Samuel Ridgway, Pamela Ridgway, Jeffrey Duchrow and Katie Duchrow; and by six great-grandchildren. He is further survived by two sisters, Suzanne Wicks of Lebanon, Ill., and Jean Schendel of Charlottesville, Va.

He was predeceased by his parents; two children, Joan and Jeff; and two sisters.

Memorials may be designated in his name to the American Legion Post 0543 of Stevens Point.
