Mellenthin, Viola Z. (11 May 1907 - 5 May 2002)

Viola Z. Mellenthin, age 94, of Marshfield, went peacefully home to be with her personal Savior at 10:38 a.m. Sun. May 5, 2002.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Sat. May 11, 2002, at the Grace Baptist Church. Pastor Scott Goodwill will officiate. Paulette Reckner will serve as pianist. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Fri. at the Grace Baptist Church, 312 East 9th St., and again on Sat.one hour prior to service time. Hansen Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Mrs. Mellenthin was born May 11, 1907, in the town of McMillan, a daughter of the late Friederich and Mary (nee Friese) Dethloff. She was united in marriage to Julius A. Mellenthin on Oct. 17, 1931, in Marshfield. He preceded her in death on March 6, 1991. Viola worked beside her husband Julius in the cheese making business; in addition she worked for the General Telephone Company until retiring in 1972.

Mrs. Mellenthin enjoyed a lifetime of church activities, which included being a pianist. She also enjoyed serving as pianist for a hymn sing at a local nursing home.

She is lovingly survived by her daughter, Juliann (Reinhold) Werth, Madison; son, Edgar (Sue) Mellenthin, Hartland; grandchildren, Kristine (Robert) Riley, Richfield, Minn., Timothy (Beth) Werth, Chetek, Eric and Sara Mellenthin, Harland; one great-grandson, Ross Werth; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Four sisters, Rose, Emma, Amanda and Luella and one brother, Henry, preceded her in death.
