Wundrow, Earl William (7 Feb. 1926 - 5 Nov. 2007)

Earl William Wundrow, “Popsy”, 81, of 585 Peterson Drive, apt. 101, Phillips, passed away Mon., November 5, 2007 at Pleasant View Nursing Home. He was born February 7, 1926 to Esther (Dekarske) Wundrow in Marshfield. Earl attended and graduated from Marshfield High School with the class of 1944. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during W.W. II in the Pacific Theatre of Action onboard the SS George Gershwin, USS Kit Carson and the USS Argonne. Earl traveled through the Panama Canal to the Philippines, the Marshall Islands and on to Japan.

On June 28, 1947 he and Elaine Radtke “Momsy” were married in Marshfield and started a very happy and loving life. Earl and his father, Henry, started the Marshfield Tire and Battery Company, which they operated until 1949. They later purchased and ran an automotive service station, Wundrow’s Super Service until 1977. After a short retirement, Earl worked for Mid State Trucking in Marshfield. In 1981 he and Elaine decided to try retirement again and moved to their home on Musser Lake.

In Phillips, Earl stayed very active, starting a deer farm, woodworking, golfing with his many friends and volunteering for the Price County Snowmobile Association as their chief mechanic and grooming many miles of trails. In 1991 he was diagnosed with cancer, but with the help of his many friends, family, excellent health care in the Northwoods and God, he was able to enjoy another 17 years of life. He credits all the above for the chance to enjoy an additional two Cadillacs, three Ford trucks, and two Tahoes since his initial diagnosis. “May the road ahead be smooth. You will be missed by all. We love you.”

Earl is survived by his wife, Elaine, of Phillips; three children: Gary (Jeanne) Wundrow, of Cottage Grove, Ore., Barbara (Chuck) Wagner, of Selah, Wash., and Larry (Cathryn) Wundrow of Lolo, Mont.; and six grandchildren.

Services will be held on Fri., Nov. 9 at the Heindl Funeral Home in Phillips. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. until the memorial service at 11 a.m. officiated by Milt Neuhauser. Military Honors will be conducted by Lane-Kreiling American Legion Post No. 122 and the Frank and Michael Baran VFW Post No. 5778.

The Heindl Funeral Home, Phillips, is in charge of the arrangements.
