Staples, Robert E. (18 Jan 1908 - 12 Oct 2000)

Robert E. Staples, 92, 9730 Lake Road, town of Grant, died late Thur. evening, Oct. 12, 2000, at Edgewater Haven Nursing Home in Port Edwards, where he had resided since January 1999.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Mon. at St. John Lutheran Church in Kellner. The Rev. Paul Mueller will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Merrillan.

Mr. Staples was born in Merrillan on Jan. 18, 1908, to Jay and Alta (DeVan) Staples. He attended school in Merrillan and graduated in 1926. He married Gladys Hayden in August 1929 in Crown Point, Ind. He married Agnes Rickman on June 12, 1976, in Kellner.

He was employed for 32 years in the Biron Division of Consolidated Papers, Inc., from 1941 until his retirement in January 1973.

He served his country in the U.S. Army from January 1943 to July 1945, being stationed in Iran.

He was a member if St. John Lutheran Church in Kellner and the Kellner Senior Citizens.

Survivors include his wife, Agnes of Port Edwards; three daughters, Lois Frisch, Oak Park, Ill., Alta Daven, Wisconsin Rapids, and Deon Dallman, Virginia Beach, Va; one daughter-in-law, Lee Staples, Mankato, Minn.; Five stepchildren, Charles (Darlene) Rickman and Judith (Lawrence) Shepard, both of Wisconsin Rapids; Ronald Rickman; Gerald (Patricia) Rickman, Neenah, and Jane (William) Binnebose, La Crosse; one brother, Ralph Staples, Long Beach, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; and 15 step-great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, his first wife, one son (James), one grandson, two sisters, three brothers and one step-daughter.

Friends may call at Taylor Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids from 4-8 p.m Sun.and at the church on Mon. from 10 a.m. until the time of services.
