Jim was born March 21, 1967, in Wisconsin Rapids, to James F. and Joyce M. (Rybicki) Edwards.
He was united in marriage to Janelle L. Monear on June 30, 1990, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Junction City.
Jim was a highly successful business owner. He spent his entire working career with Thomas Electric Service, starting as a field electrician in 1985. In 1999, Jim purchased the business from his father. Under Jim's leadership, Thomas Electric Service became a leading electrical contractor in the state of Wisconsin. In 2004, the Marshfield Area Chamber of Commerce and Industry recognized the company as its Firm of the Year.
Jim shared his time and talents with many local organizations. He was a leader for the YMCA, Our Lady of Peace Parish and Marshfield Water and Light Commission. Jim served as an alderman for the Marshfield Common Council. His passion for hockey led him to serve as president of the Green Bay Gamblers Youth Hockey Association and past president of Marshfield Youth Hockey. Jim and his company donated the electrical service that made Rotary Winter Wonderland a reality. He was a member of the Marshfield Elks, Knights of Columbus and Shriners. Jim and his family believed strongly in giving back to their community. Jim also was a leader in his industry, serving on the Apprenticeship Board for the Association of Builders and Contractors. Jim's greatest joy was watching his children play hockey. He and his wife, Janelle, made extraordinary personal sacrifices to accommodate their children's hockey interest. He was proud of the talent his children displayed on the ice. However, he was more proud of the character of his children. Jim's compassion and zest for life will live on through his sons, Justin and Jonathan.
Jim fulfilled a lifelong dream in obtaining his pilot's license. Flying brought Jim a sense of calmness and peace of mind. Jim frequently flew his family to hockey tournaments and vacations throughout the country. One of his motivations for flying was to create more time to spend with his family.
Jim is survived by his wife, Janelle, and two sons, Jonathan and Justin Edwards of Marshfield; his parents, James and Joyce Edwards of Mosinee; paternal grandmother, Ruth Edwards of Stevens Point; and maternal grandmother, Adeline Rybicki of Rudolph. He is further survived by two sisters, Jill (Mike) Wittry of Stevens Point and Jennifer (fiancé, Adam Kurzynski) Edwards of Algonquin, Ill. He was preceded in death by his two sons, James F. Edwards IV, and Joshua J. Edwards; and paternal and maternal grandfathers.
The family has requested that any memorial donations be made to the Marshfield Area Catholic Schools Tuition Assistance Funds.
